New born qualification. Julie and Laura with Tony Lau-Walker Chief Executive of Eastleigh College

Baby on Board Doulas, in conjunction with Eastleigh College in Hampshire have worked very closely with the Council for Awards in Children’s Care and Education (CACHE) to pioneer the first officially recognised national qualification.

Our aim is to give Doulas all across the UK official recognition for the tremendous work they do. It is important that parents know their Doulas are properly trained and are experienced in supporting them during the most exciting time of their lives.

The CACHE Endorsed Learning Programme was launched in 2006, as a scheme which provides trainers and learners with certification which is both recognised by an awarding body and quality assured. Baby on Board Doulas and Eastleigh College worked with CACHE to devise units of accreditation, which are then scrutinised by a panel of experts to ensure they meet requirements for academic rigour, appropriateness of level, credit value and assessment.

Not only will you get a certificate of attendance from Baby on Board Doulas, you will also be working towards a Professional Doula Award Level 3 Certificate, which also offers a recognised way of evidencing your professional development.

CACHE Chief Executive Richard Dorrance expressed pleasure at the ongoing success of the Endorsed Learning Programme, and said "The ELP gives CACHE a great opportunity to become involved in some very innovative projects, and we’re pleased to have formed some great partnerships with providers. Learners will also benefit from having an Endorsed Learning Programme certificate that is recognised by employers nationally and in many countries overseas."
